]]>

It was only until recently I have discovered painted rocks as a fun and creative way for me and my daughter to spend time together and learn how to paint cute and funny creatures on the rocks.

Believe me, it’s so addictive that you will be searching for rocks around you to paint them all day long.

There is also a big community built around painting rocks and hiding them in the real world. Those could be inspirational quotes, cute animals or whatever you like.

Best Painted Rocks. Get inspired with these DIY painted rocks. From super cute animals to easy-painted rock crafts for kids, there are plenty of ideas for inspiration. Step-by-step instructions on how to make the best painted rocks. #decorhomeideas

The project also known as The Kindness Rock Project is encouraging people to leave rocks painted with inspiring messages along the path of life.

Another similar project is the one in Humboldt State University where students on the campus are hiding rocks and when they find them they can join a special Facebook group – called Rock’n HSU where they can connect with each other and share the location of the painted rocks, the sayings written on to them, etc.

As this is one of the biggest collections of painted rock ideas on the Internet we have created different sections to make it easier for you to access those that you like the most.

How To Make Painted Rocks

Even though the process of painting rocks may look very easy and straightforward there are some specifics that you should be aware of. Follow these 7 easy steps to learn how to paint rocks that look awesome.

  1. Choose your rock. It’s best to have a smooth and flat rock with appropriate shape for your project. Well, you can paint any rock, but those that are more porous tend to absorb paint unevenly and could eventually ruin your masterpiece. You can find a suitable rock outdoors or get one from the local home improvement store.
  2. Prepare the rock by washing it with soap as it may have some dirt on it and then let it dry.
  3. Seal the rock with spray or brush. It will help you with stones that are more porous. If you want to achieve more contrast and vibrant colors you can prime the rock with white paint.
  4. Start painting your rock. Use acrylic paint – it’s the best option as it lasts longer. You might need several coats of paint to get evenly colored surface. Don’t forget to let each coat to dry off before the next one.
  5. Use very small brushes for the outlines and details. You must be extra careful as this step requires a lot of attention to each detail.
  6. To write on the rock you can use permanent markers or sharpies. They are waterproof and are very easy to use.
  7. Seal off the rock with a waterbase sealer that will protect it from damage.

Pro tip: Try your skills on some sample rocks so that you can get familiar with the process. The best thing is that even if you mess up things, you could always wash the paint while still wet and start over.

]]>

A while ago, I was searching for some basic string art patterns in order to show my daughter how funny the DIY string art could be and, unfortunately, I found out that there were almost no simple templates that you can directly download and apply.

So I decided to prepare a list of 30 super easy, yet very beautiful templates that can be downloaded directly with a simple click – I’ve also added instructions and directions so that everyone could start immediately.

Best String Art Patterns

Of course, if you want to see more refined and complicated ideas, check out this article: 28 Amazing String Art Ideas (You Would Love To DIY)

In case it seems too hard of a DIY project and you want to buy some of the projects that are only shown as templates, check out our selection of the best string art kits. You can check the latest string art kit offers HERE.

My advice is to start with one or two FREE string art templates to see if you really enjoy it.

We have a great free Mason Jar String Art Tutorial – with step-by-step instructions, photos and video on how to do it like a pro. Check it out!

You can apply the same techniques to any other string art project.

If you master it, you can then buy a more complicated, customized pattern and improve your skills. You can also look into the internet for more string art inspirations.

For a simple DIY string art project you will need these materials:

  • A piece of wood pursuant to the size of your project
  • PC
  • Printer
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Linoleum nails (the amount depends on the size of your project; usually takes a small pack)
  • Hammer
  • Yarn or Embroidery Floss

If you do not have a printer at home, you can simply place a sheet of paper on the computer screen and copy the contour.

All templates are matched to a standard page that can be printed by a normal printer.

I’ve made all patterns and templates ready to print. You just need to scale up or down when you are in the print menu so that the template fits your media. Below each image is a download link with the high resolution version of the template. Although they are in .jpg variant instead of .pdf, they can be printed on all devices.

For some of the free printable string art patterns, you do not have to necessarily hammer a nail at each point, but still, they have to be enough to keep shape and contour.

Although it is not difficult, there are a few things to look out for:

  • Safety comes first! Make sure you won’t hurt some of your fingers with the hammer.
  • Use a perfectly smooth piece of wood for a better result.
  • Stick the sheet of paper with some tape to the wood so it does not move anywhere.

By the way, you can use a foam board and needles instead of a wooden board and small nails. This option is easier to make, but it is much more unstable and fragile. Besides, it is usually used for string art for kids because it is safer.

If you do not want to buy the different materials, you can buy a kit that has everything ready for you.

3. Transform Wine Bottles into Decorative Art Pieces with Paint

Book Page Bottles #winebottle #crafts #repurpose #decorhomeideas

Although one of the easiest DIY wine bottle transformation projects, it has a great decorative impact, especially when a few bottles are grouped on a shelf.

First cover the external surface of the glass with a thick coat of white paint. Then get a newspaper or a book and draw patterns of images you like.

Gluing them onto the surface can be done with a Mod podge.

via DIY Network

5. Create Aromatic Ambience with a DIY Wine Bottle Candle

Decorative Yet Functional Outdoor Lights #winebottle #crafts #repurpose #decorhomeideas

As easy as it looks, the only upgrade you should do to the wine bottles is to clean them well from any residue as to let the metallic spray paint stick well.

Then place a candle into each bottleneck. Such a DIY wine bottle candle could be part of a romantic dinner or surprise.

via Ruffled Blog

6. Upcycle Wine Bottles with Decoupage For Unique Designs

Decoupage Wine Bottles #winebottle #crafts #repurpose #decorhomeideas

The wine bottles can be upcycled by making decoupage on the surface. Their look will be entirely changed- from a floral motif to a themed or holiday image.

This way they can be reused many times by storing different alcohol in them.

via DIY Elanka

7. Create a Unique 3D Design with Torn-Paper Decoupage

DIY Collaged Map Wine Bottle #winebottle #crafts #repurpose #decorhomeideas

This technique is very similar to the decoupage. The difference comes with the entireness of the image.

Instead of gluing an image, it is torn into pieces that are glued onto the glass to create a volumetric surface thanks to the overlapping of the pieces.

This technique can be applied by using an old world map, book pages, colorful paper scrap pieces.

]]>

The best thing about DIY crafts is that you can turn boring objects into extraordinary items. For example, a piece of yarn can become a sweater or a cardboard box can become literally anything you (or your kids) can think of.

While we are in love with all sorts of crafts, we really like the ones that use items we already have on hand.

What To Make With Coffee Filters?

One such item that we always have on hand is a regular box of coffee filters. Coffee is essential to our daily routine. We’re sure we’re not the only ones.

Coffee Filter Dancers

via One Little Project

If you have a box of coffee filters, you can easily turn a few of them into an adorable springtime craft – DIY coffee filter dancers! To make one dancer, you’ll need 2 coffee filters, a pair of scissors, washable markers, a tiny elastic and 2 pipe cleaners.

I know what you’ll ask, and no, permanent markers won’t work. Put those Sharpies away ( or at least for this project only ).

Coffee Filter Dancers Colors 1

If you have kids, you probably already have some colorful and washable markers in your house. The washable part is essential so that the colors bleed and create the rainbow watercolor effect on the dancer’s dress.

It’s also helpful to have a baking sheet on hand. The baking sheet creates a mess-free surface or at least less-mess area for you (or your kids) to create this easy DIY craft.

Gather your supplies, and then watch the video below to see how easy it is to make these beautiful dancers.

Debbie from One Little Project explains everything in details in a step by step tutorial which you can find: HERE

What we really love about it is how adding just a few drops of water causes the colors to blend and create such lovely shades on the dresses. You could get even more creative and use a variety of colors to make endless variations and effects on each dress.

Coffee Filter Dancers Ready

For a pinkish dress, try reds, purples, oranges and of course, pinks.

For a bluish dress, try blues, greens and purples.

For a yellowish dress, try yellows and oranges.

We can’t stress out how easy this craft is. Even a toddler or child as young as pre-school age would enjoy coloring and mixing colors on the coffee filters with the markers and dripping the water on top to see the colors blend and change.

It’s a good educational craft project that shows how colors blend together. In our book, this craft totally counts as at-home arts and sciences.

These dancers would be beautiful spring decor. We can also picture young children making them dance around the dining room table!

Have you ever made a craft with coffee filters before?

Don’t forget to visit One Little Project for all the supplies and steps to make these beautiful coffee filter dancers.

Quilling Cards Are Easy To Make!

No need to worry about getting special instructions to make cards.

You have all the resources you need, and more.

Quilling Christmas Cards #quilling #Christmas #cards #decorhomeideas

Some resources are sitting right in your home. Others you can pick up at a craft store, cut up old Christmas cards, fabric, buttons, and even plastic chips.

The trick is to make a mosaic of sorts! You need to save old recycled stuff, and turn it into a masterpiece card.

Quilling Christmas Cards #quilling #Christmas #cards #decorhomeideas

When your family, cousins, and friends open up your card, they will know you love them. It is inevitable!

Now, do you have a gradma or aunt who sews? Ask them, if they have a button collection. Take the buttons, and place them on some paper stock shaped like a tree.

Quilling Christmas Cards #quilling #Christmas #cards #decorhomeideas

They should be shaped somewhat of a triangle. Glue them on. Find some ribbon from an old gift, that you have not thrown away.

Quilling Christmas Cards #quilling #Christmas #cards #decorhomeideas

Do you have any glitter around?

Those three things are just the start of your Christmas card art.

Moreover, some people make art eco-friendly. They take colored sand and glue it on a floor or tile. Do this with a card. Have a look at a rangoli.

Quilling Christmas Cards #quilling #Christmas #cards #decorhomeideas

They are a perfect specimen of what you can make geometrically, create art, and have something unique! Have a look at the rangolis on: Rangoli Designs

They are amazing.
Pick some wildflowers that are blooming late, and dry them out. Place them on your cards. Many people simply buy fake flowers and pull them apart for the petals.

Quilling Christmas Cards #quilling #Christmas #cards #decorhomeideas

They can be purchased inexpensively at dollar shops. The fact that your card is three dimensions, says that you are bringing real joy to someone. The card is not flat, with rote sayings.

It stands out! It has a message. It is a work of art. It is a piece of humanity.

Quilling Christmas Cards #quilling #Christmas #cards #decorhomeideas

However, Don’t Forget This For Your Quilling Cards!

Say you are making a quilling card with a fabric which should not be stapled or taped.

Quilling Christmas Cards #quilling #Christmas #cards #decorhomeideas

Stapling or taping takes away from the beauty of the card. Make sure you have a glue gun- it’s the easiest way to make objects and fabric items stick.

It is quick and convenient as well. Glue guns are a must, and they come in large or small sizes.

Quilling Christmas Cards #quilling #Christmas #cards #decorhomeideas

Glue sticks are easy to put in your glue gun-voila- that braid sticks- or that piece of red fabric adheres- or a lightweight button stays on!

This makes your Quill Card a one of a kind treasure.

Mason jars are everywhere right now, and for good reason.

They’re affordable, attractive, and highly versatile.

If you love the look of mason jars and are interested in decorating with a mason jar design in a fun and unique way, then it’s time to consider these mason jar string art ideas.

Best Mason Jar String Art Ideas #stringart #masonjar #decorhomeideas

They are fun to make and to look at and are sure to inspire you to make your own art.

Before browsing all these mason jar string art ideas, let’s define what string art is and especially mason jar string art.

String art is a creative way to recreate paintings and decorations using a string and forming the contour with nails which you need to follow with yarn.

There are thousands of amazing ideas to create, but mason jars are very popular.

Supplies needed:

  • Mason Jar String Art Pattern
  • Computer and a printer to print it ( if you do not have a printer at home, you can copy from the computer screen – quite primitive option but it works great).
  • Wood board – 10×18 inch is perfect
  • Wire nails – I used approx. 80-100 pcs ( Nickel colored if possible )
  • Hammer
  • Tape
  • 2 rolls of yarn – white and pink
  • Faux flowers
  • Scissors

How to make a Mason Jar with string

  1. Print mason jar template.
  2. Select a board(or cut one) that is big enough for your project
  3. Stain the board
  4. Start on one corner of the jar pattern and mark every 1/2-3/4 inch on the lines.
  5. Attach your paper to the board using tape
  6. Using a drill to make holes for the nails
  7. Remove the paper
  8. Place a towel down and then your board. Using a hammer, nail in the nails about half way
  9. Tie on your string and go around the outline of your jar at least 2 times but more is fine.
  10. End your string where you started and tie the strings together. Cut the string.
  11. Add your flowers or other fun to your vase!

1. Refresh Your Room with a Pink Stringed Flower Jar

Mason Jar String Art With Flowers #stringart #masonjar #decorhomeideas

This attractive jar is outlined with a light pink string that perfectly complements the pink and white flowers.

Adding some color to the jar with a different string is a wonderful way to make a design pop and to help set it apart from other similar designs.

The full jar of flowers seems to pop off of the board, making the flowers look realistic.

Check availability: Here

2. Add Daisies and a Heart to Your Burlap String Art

Mason Jar String Art With Pink Heart #stringart #masonjar #decorhomeideas

Bright daisies are complemented by the light pink heart on the front of the jar.

The important thing about adding a solid design to the front of a mason jar string art piece is to ensure that there is enough string to make the heart seem solid.

This helps it to pop off of the art rather than blending in and getting lost or downplayed by the bright flowers.

Check availability: Here

3. Get a Rustic Look with a Zig Zag String Mason Jar

Rustic Mason Jar String Art #stringart #masonjar #decorhomeideas

Everyone loves zig zags.

Not only are they fun and a little more exciting than just an outline, but they also add a lot of movement to the art and to the appearance of the jar itself.

Rather than having the art you make look flat and still, by adding zig zags you can make sure that it looks festive and as though it has natural movement.

4. Make a String Mason Jar with Ease

Mason Jar String Art Turquoise Flowers #stringart #masonjar #decorhomeideas

Sometimes you just want some simple art to hang on your wall, and that’s when it’s a good idea to do a simple outline with the “Ball” name on the front of the jar.

This prevents the jar from looking too busy and overwhelming, which is great when it is going to be displayed around a lot of other art. Adding bright flowers helps the art to pop.

5. Welcome Fall with a Beautiful String Mason Jar

Filled Mason Jar String Art #stringart #masonjar #decorhomeideas

Fall colors are gorgeous, and attractive fall leaves and flowers look even nicer when they are displayed on an attractive wood board and with a full and busy string art jar.

Using a lot of thinner string and making sure that the jar is mostly covered helps to prevent the jar from looking bare or empty and adds movement and design to the art.

6. Celebrate Harvest Season with a Blue String Mason Jar

Mason Jar String Art Wheat Decor #stringart #masonjar #decorhomeideas

Bold blue string really helps to set this mason jar string art apart from others that you have seen in the past.

The blue of the string perfectly complements the dark wood background as well as the lighter wheat that is in the jar. Thanks to the use of monochrome browns behind the blue, the blue pops and is easily seen.

7. Add Color to a Hanged String Jar with Tulips

Mason Jar String Art Hanger #stringart #masonjar #decorhomeideas

Adding longer strings to make it look like your jar is hanging is a fun way to update string hard.

This also allows for the inclusion of longer stemmed flowers, like bright purple tulips.

The longer stems won’t look out of place, thanks to the long strings hanging the jar. Using an attractive horizontal weaving on the jar helps make it look more solid and full.

8. Achieve a Modern Look with a Geometric String Jar

Tree Log Mason Jar String Art #stringart #masonjar #decorhomeideas

An open angular design ends up looking very geometric, which is fun and a little different from other jars that are simply outlined.

Keeping the string thinner helps the geometric design of the jar to pop off of the board and allows it to really shine.

By pairing the jar with an oval board and loose and airy flowers, the whole piece of art has movement and doesn’t appear too sharp.

9. Use a Rustic Wood for a Farmhouse String Jar

Home Sign Mason Jar String Art #stringart #masonjar #decorhomeideas

Neutral string can blend in a lot when used on natural wood tones, but simply washing the wood with a blue paint helps the jar to stand out.

The light colors of the flowers are reminiscent of an old farmhouse, and the painted “HOME” down the side of the art helps to establish feelings of love and remembering being with family.

10. Make a Statement with a String Bow

Mason Jar String Art #stringart #masonjar #decorhomeideas

There’s no reason that the flowers in your mason jar string art can’t be tied with a nice to bow to keep them all together.

This jar has a simple outline that is then offset with a longer organic bow. The flowers, along with the bow, prevent the jar from looking too plain and help make this piece of art stand out from a gallery wall.

I am pretty sure that everyone has seen some eye-catching Mason jar string art design ideas on Pinterest or somewhere else. Once I started to search for some of those, I was basically stunned by the human creativity and talent.

Sometimes I think the string art is too difficult for me, however, you can’t be 100% sure if you don’t try. That’s why I decided to give it a go.

It took me some solid time to create a Mason jar string art that really looks nice but I am getting better and better.

Here are some of my ideas that I want to share with you. Hope you’ll get inspired by them!

DIY Mason Jar String Art Tutorial with Step by step instructions and free printable mason jar string art template #stringart #masonjar #diy #decorhomeideas

Before to start, I just want to tell you that there is an option to buy a Mason jar string art kit right from the shop, check out the link,  however I’ve decided to be a bold DIY warrior. 🙂

Let’s have a look at each step of my DIY Mason jar string art process.

Preparation:

First, I had to find a Mason jar template that I could use. Believe it or not, that was quite a difficult task. (For your own convenience, we have prepared 30 String Art patterns which you can download for free.)

So after 2 hours of searching, I finally found what I have been looking for (and now I do not even remember where I found it) 🙂 As I browsed tens if not hundreds of pages until I finally found something that would do the job.

If you prefer watching the video here it is:

Mason Jar String Art Video

I thought a simple Mason jar is a very boring string art project. That’s why I added a cute heart in the middle.  ( so original, right? ). There was a bit of a fitting process but finally, I had what I want! Hooray!

By the way, you can download the single Mason jar pattern and the Mason jar + heart pattern at the end of this post where there is a direct download link.

Once I had the ideal template, I started to plan the yarn color and the flowers.

Mason Jar String Art Tutorial

At home, I’ve found two types of artificial flowers – white roses and alpine flowers, both of which seemed very appropriate (you’ll see the final result in a little while). By the way, you can buy another type of faux florals to fit your interior and personal taste.

As for the yarn, I chose a lucent yarn in white and pink color, but you can customize by choosing any other depending on the color of the wood pad … and once I said a wooden pad…

The next essential thing is the wooden pad – its kind, size and color. The Mason jar string art template can increase or decrease in the printing process so that it stays symmetrically on the pad. I had a 10×18 inch wooden pad and I used it to fit both the Mason jar and the flowers.

You can buy a wooden pad in almost every Dollar shop or you can simply use an old chopping board you don’t use anymore.

Before starting the project, place the Mason jar string art on the wooden pad and add the flowers the way you would like them to be arranged to make sure their dimensions are fitting well.

After these important notes, I guess we are ready to start creating but let’s take a look at the list of the materials needed for the Mason jar string art project.

Materials needed:

  • Mason Jar String Art Pattern – download it HERE
  • Computer and a printer to print it ( if you do not have a printer at home, you can copy from the computer screen – quite primitive option but it works great).
  • Wood board – 10×18 inch is perfect
  • Wire nails – I used approx. 80-100 pcs ( Nickel colored if possible )
  • Hammer
  • Tape
  • 2 rolls of yarn – white and pink
  • Faux flowers
  • Scissors

Once you have everything prepared, it’s time to start with the creative part!

1. Place the wooden pad on a table or a flat surface.

2. On the lower part place the Mason jar template.

3. Stick the paper template to the wooden pad and make sure it does not move.

Mason Jar String Art Step 1

4. Start to hammer nails from the top left by following the contour. There are not exact rules and defined places, just trust your gut, where you have curves. Try to imagine how the yarn runs on the nails so that you can capture the contour more accurately.

Mason Jar String Ar -Step 2

5. Once you hammer all the nails of the Mason jar, do the same with the heart in the center. Here it is better to crumble more often because you will make your heart not just with a contour but also thick colored.

Do not worry if the nails are not quite straight or even, it is important to keep the contour (and keep your fingers as well)!

6. Start with yarn straining on the nails, starting again from the top left of the Mason jar. Make a node on the very first nail, so that it does not untie. You need to wrap the string around each nail before moving to the next one.

Mason Jar String Art Step 4

7. Remove the paper template.

Mason Jar String Art Step 6

8. Stretch the pink yarn across opposite nails by gradually filling your heart. You do not need to follow a strict sequence, but eventually crawl the outer edge of the heart to get the perfect shape.

Mason Jar String Art Step 3

9. Arrange the flowers to your liking. 😉

It’s beautiful, isn’t it? You can easily customize this string art project by choosing yarn in a different color or by switching the heart with the first letter of your name. Let your creativity run wild!
